In this page let us discusses some technical terms related to digital camera. We have named this page as Digital Camera glossary and I am sure this page will be updated periodically. In short, this page contains all terms related to a digital camera
What is Digital Camera?
A digital camera, also termed as “digicam”, is used to capture still images and videos. It stores images digitally on a compatible memory storage device, rather than a conventional film. A digital camera is a compact and easy-to-use device, which allows us to take high-quality images with just a click.
Pixel:
“Picture Element” also generally termed as pixel. A pixel is the smallest item of information in an image. Generally pixels are arranged in dots or squares. The physical size of a pixel depends on how you’ve set the resolution for the display screen. It is measures in dots per inch (DPI).
Resolution:
In digital camera, a resolution is defined as the “measurement of the total number of pixels that a digital camera’s image sensor can record in one photograph”. The resolution of a digital camera is measured in megapixels (MP). Higher resolution gives sharper and larger print photographs. There are two types of resolution measurements, effective resolution and overall resolution
Autofocus (AF):
Autofocus is a feature of a digital camera that automatically brings the subject of a photograph into sharp focus before capturing the image. Autofocus (AF) really could be called power-focus. Focusing is the process of moving the lens in and out until a possible sharper image is obtained.
There are two types of autofocus systems such as
• Active AF System (E.g. point-and-shoot cameras)
• Passive AF System. (E.g. SLR cameras)
